Jules and the team at bakeshop Torte have travelled to the cliffside Whaleshead Resort on the coast of Oregon. They’re there to support former co-workers Steph and Sterling, who’ve been hired to rejuvenate the aging resort’s SeaBreeze Restaurant with a new menu. It’s opening weekend, and everyone is ready to cheer on the duo in their new adventure.
But when one of the resort staff is murdered, the team pitches in to help local police discover the identity of the killer. Was it a deal gone wrong? Was the victim involved in something illegal?

The mystery in this story is engaging and the fact I dropped in many books into the series didn’t cause any problems figuring out the cast of characters. But there was a lot of description and narrative that dragged down the story for me. We were almost twenty percent into the book before the mystery got going. The ((to me) excessive description continued through the whole book. Instead of showing the characters doing something, they’d be sitting around talking about events. We didn’t experience them; we had them described to us often.
I found the book dragged in many places and I won’t be checking out the backlist.
