Queen Elizabeth II is finding her feet as a young monarch, wife and mother in 1957. She’s visiting allies to rebuild fractured international relationships in the post-war world. She’s counselled by her father’s old couriers, and it’s clear someone in their ranks is attempting to sabotage her attempts. But who can it be?
Then her personal life is impacted by the discovery of two bodies in Chelsea and someone close to her uses her for an alibi. She knows it’s not true, but revealing the truth could put the monarchy and her family at risk. She cannot solve either puzzle on her own, but has to find an independent partner so enlists the aid of ex-code breaker Joan McGraw.

The two women take on the challenges and dangers, determined to keep the monarch, her family and the commonwealth intact. But they’re on a clock and danger is much closer than they can imagine.
This is the fourth in the series. SJ Bennett has created a very believable sleuth in the fictionalized Queen Elizabeth II. There are enough protocols included to add authenticity, enough details to feel real and enough clues and red herrings to keep you turning the pages.
